Courtesy Post: Help Cosmo Updated

This is an update from COSMO, the very friendly street dog (just ask the by-law officers and mail carriers how sweet he is).”Dr. Mike took 7 of my teeth out (all molars), cleaned up my inflamed gums and cut 5 lumps off my body! Despite all of that, I had a really great day on the blanket in the clinic. I am so grateful! The total cost is $1400, thanks to everyone who has donated we have paid $500 so far. <3 "

Frank and his Staffie “Cosmo” live on the street for about 4 years now. One of the senior members of Okanagan Humane Society (one of the partners of Okanagan Cat Coalition) is in frequent contact and supports them. Cosmo is 11 years old, in great condition, well looked after (you should see his winter coats and boots!!), but needs some major dental work. Can you help us to make it happen? Any donations by Cash or Credit Card can be made to Pawsitive Veterinary Care at 6-1551 Sutherland Avenue. Any amount would be greatly appreciated! We will keep you informed about the amount fundraised. We will need about $1,500.

Any other donations made to the Okanagan Humane Society and Cat Coalition are greatly appreciated from all the animals, big and small, and Cosmo.

OHS 2017 Raffle: And The Winners Are…

First Prize of $1000 went to Stephen Maser of West Kelowna

Second Prize of an Original Painting – Dick VanderLinde of Vernon

Featured Pet: Frisky

Frisky, an 8 year old affectionate domestic short haired tabby is desperately in need of a new home where he can enjoy the outdoors and search for mice. His owner has recently moved into a retirement residence and is unable to take him with her as they don’t allow outdoor pets.

If you are interested in meeting Frisky, please contact Moira Day at cell: 250-470-7774 or 250-548-3355.

Help Us Sell Raffle Tickets

Would your boss mind if you sold Raffle Tickets for the Okanagan Humane Society? With only 3000 tickets printed, there is a 1 in 3000 chance of winning $1000 or an hour-long sightseeing flight or 3 other terrific prizes. Selling all the tickets means we raise $15,000 to help with our animal rescue work.

2 cents or less of every dollar goes to administration. How many other non-profits can say that?

Go into a vet’s office to buy a ticket or better still, contact Louvain at 250-548-9293 and tell her you want to sell a book of tickets. Please hurry. The draw is only 5 weeks away on June 4th.

President’s Message

Okanagan Humane Society

Dear Members and Friends,

It’s been a long, rather cold winter but we are finally enjoying Spring and the start of better weather. Unfortunately, we are also having to deal with a larger than ever number of cat colonies. We are still helping people with cats and dogs who cannot afford to pay the full cost of having their pets spayed or neutered but the situation with cats and kittens is out of control.

The Okanagan Cat Coalition has been formed to co-ordinate the efforts of the various animal groups. There are an estimated 15,000 homeless and feral cats in the Okanagan Valley. All Groups are working as hard as they can but we need more help.

If you can assist in any way by trapping, fostering, providing a barn or by selling-raffle tickets to help cover costs, please call me at 250-548-9293. If you can donate gently used items for our Spring Bazaar or attend one or two of our fundraising events it will make a big difference. Every little bit helps.

All Okanagan Humane Society volunteers wish you a pleasant and happy year.

Hazel and her hard working volunteers put together, among many other events, our successful Christmas Bazaar and Silent Auction.
